A board flashes its twelve pictures in four groups of three: one second blank, one second shown. The whole sequence then plays a second time. That is sixteen seconds of showing per board, and the test clock only counts this time.
Spatial memory tests how much of a layout you can hold after a brief exposure — the skill behind remembering where things are on a busy display.
Every picture asked is one you saw; the task is where. Grouping the board — corners, rows, pairs — during the second showing is what turns twelve loose positions into something you can hold.
