The arena is divided into 40 segments, numbered clockwise from 1 to 40. The ball normally advances one segment per step in the clockwise direction; this pattern can break without warning in four different ways.
Under normal conditions the ball travels clockwise and moves one segment per step (1 to 2, then 3). During the test it can suddenly reverse and start moving anticlockwise. When that happens you are expected to press the designated button quickly to show you noticed the direction change.
VIGI 2 does not measure speed alone. Tracking the ball’s direction, shape, speed and colour at the same time, holding that attention for 12 minutes and responding correctly to each change are all assessed together.

The test runs for 12 minutes in total. Throughout that time you are expected to hold your attention level and respond correctly to every change.
The screen shows a circular arena divided into 40 segments, numbered clockwise from 1 to 40. A marker representing a ball moves around this circle according to set rules and, under normal conditions, advances one segment per step in the clockwise direction.
You track several parameters at once: movement direction and direction change, shape transformation, speed increase and colour change. Each change requires a fast, correct press of the matching button.
In a direction change the ball suddenly starts moving anticlockwise. In a shape change the initially round ball turns into a square without warning. In a speed change it jumps two segments instead of one — for example from 3 straight to 5. In a colour change the ball changes colour at random moments.
