Between one and three transformation rules run from panel to panel — something moves, turns, counts up, changes its fill — and your job is to carry them one step further and pick the fifth panel from six options, A to F. The test never names the transformation; it shows you four steps of it and expects you to produce the fifth. The catalogue behind the questions is finite and knowable: twenty-three rules in nine families, and every rule acts on one of four channels — position, count, fill or direction. Two rules never share a channel, which is what turns a hard question into four easy readings. The five steps below are the order in which they are worth learning.
Every question is a series. Four panels are shown in a row and the fifth is a question mark; one or more transformations run from each panel to the next, and you have to carry them one step further. Six options are offered, labelled A to F, and exactly one is right. Clicking an option selects it and clicking another moves the selection — but you cannot un-select, so if you want a question left blank, simply do not click. The keyboard works: 1 to 6 choose, the arrow keys move, space or enter selects.

Two rules never act on the same channel, so a three-rule question is three one-rule questions stacked. Reading position, count, fill, direction in that order every single time is the one thing you can do without thinking when the clock is loud.
The six options are a product of the changing channels, so solving one rule of a two-rule question cuts the field from six to three, or to two. A question you cannot fully crack is still worth answering with the part you did.
Three minutes on one question costs three easy ones. In the timed modes navigation is free and every question can be flagged, so the plan is a first pass at sixty seconds a question and a second pass on the flags — ending with a sweep that leaves no box empty, because a blank scores exactly what a wrong answer does.

Inductive logical thinking and inductive logical reasoning are classification: you decide which figures follow a hidden rule. Logical thinking asks you to point at the one object of nine that breaks a rule. Abstract logical reasoning is the only one where the rule is a transformation and you have to continue it.

Up to three, and two rules never act on the same channel — if one changes position, the second changes fill or count instead. Under exam conditions a quarter of questions carry a single rule, 55% carry two, 12% carry three and the remaining 8% are interleaved, where the odd and even panels follow separate rules. Preparing only for single-rule questions is preparing for the wrong test.
The result screen shows the raw number correct and a performance percentage, and the percentage is not linear. On the fourteen-question test one, two and three correct all score 10, while going from six correct to nine takes you from 30 to 57 — three questions for twenty-seven points. Speed does not raise the score, a blank counts as a wrong answer, and any test with a mistake in it is capped at 98.
